Bug: Guayadeque crashing when rearanging songs in player playlist
  • Hi :-)

I think the title describes it all.
I'm on Oneiric with Gnome Shell using svn 1663.

    I uploaded a backtrace.

  • Can you tell me more about your system ? what os are you using? are you using gnome, kde, xfce, other ? happens all the time ?

    Thanks for your help
  • I'm using Gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. The issue is reproduceable all the time. if i want to reorder my playlist in the player a window pops up. (picture attached)

  • For the log you uploaded seems some kind of problem between gtk3 and wxWidgets.
  • I just wanted to add that I can confirm the above problem, experiencing exactly the same thing. Happening with Gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.04 32bit.
  • As stated on the roadmap (http://trac.wxwidgets.org/wiki/Roadmap) there is a GTK+ 3 port in progress. Ubuntu currently has version 2.8 in repositories. So I guess 3.0 will solve this issue...
  • Same repeatable bug here. Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome shell and svn 1670. "wxFatalSignalHandler"
  • Is there nothing that can be done about this bug ?
  • Does it happen only with GNOME Shell?
A (not very convenient) workaround would be to arrange your layout in environment that works, save it, and open it in the one you use.
  • @tamalet: its when rearranging tracks in playlist and not doing layouts.
  • Yeah, the layouts are fine. It is rearranging the playlist order or dragging and dropping a track into the playlist window that crashes the player. By the way logging out of gnome shell and starting a gnome 3 fallback session does not have this problem.
  • Hello anonbeat,

Please allow me to add a detail. It may be relevant. I often face another bug just before the crash.

System : ubuntu 11.10, Gnome 3, Gnome shell, Guayadeque built from svn (1701)
    Context : music playing
    Description of the bug :

When the music is playing, I want to skip a track (using the "next song" button), the music change but the higlight stays on the previously played song.
It doesn't happen all the time. But if I try to change the order of the songs in the queue after this bug, the crash always happens.
  • Can anyone do a backtrace ? I dont have gnome shell installed and cant install it at the moment.

    Thanks for your help

  • hi hi :-)
i just upgrade to gnome-shell 3.3.2 and this is still happening when you drag and drop songs or try to re-arrange play cue list !
    loving the new design :-)
  • I tried to install gnome shell but its not compatible with nvidia 7300 Go video card :( but looks like a compatibility problem between wxWidgets and gnome shell
  • you can do it on my machine if you want too :)
  • are you using ubuntu?

  • what version of gnome-shell and ubuntu are you using?

    you could try :-

    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

    sudo aptitude install nvidia-settings

    sudo aptitude install nvidia-current

if that doesn't help then try adding this ppa (but disable it after you done your update)

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo aptitude install nvidia-settings

    sudo aptitude install nvidia-current

    then reboot
  • Im using in the test machine ubuntu 11.10
The video card is the problem as its a nvidia 7300 Go
The system is up to date
  • ya i was checking online cause the last driver update is quite promising
but if your running in a Virtual Machine then i am not sure !
  • Just tried gnome-shell and the playlist rearrange playlist items bug and I confirmed that its a wxWidgets + gtk3 bug.
Installed filezilla ftp software that uses wxWidgets too and did a drag+drop from the file list and crashes too.
I hope they fix this problem asap

    Thanks for your help
  • great:-) thank you and a happy new year to you :-)
  • just installed the latest ubuntu 12.04 and G-Shell in V-Box seems ok so far can re-arrange the playlist without crashing Guayadeque but haven't managed to turn on the sound yet!! will keep you posted :-)
  • got sound working been re-arranging songs in the playlist and dragging them from different albums and all seems stable :-)
