Auto-play feature
  • Hello,

Is it possible to configure Guayadeque in such a way that it automatically starts playing a song when it is opened? I would like to click a music on a file manager and Guayadeque starts playing it imediatelly, but I didn't find any configuration option for that. Can this be done?
  • Set save position when track length is longer than to 0
  • This does not produce the desired effect. Maybe I didn't express myself well...
What I want is that Guayadeque starts reproducing the loaded song as soon as it is opened without me having to click the play button.
For what I understand, this option you mentioned makes Guayadeque remember where in the song it was when it was last opened so it can restart from there the next time, like an automatic placemark, but it does not start reproducing it automatically next time the song is opened.
  • The closest way to achieve what you are asking for is to go to View>Preferences and uncheck "Enque as default action" and then hit Accept. With this method it will only work if Guayadeque is NOT playing anything or is paused and it also modifies the behavior of double clicking/hitting enter, which will now default to removing all songs from the playlist and playing the song you selected with enter/double click.

Now, if you have either stopped/pause the current song the next song you open from Nautilus for example, will play automatically. This can be useful if you have media keys on your keyboard otherwise you'll need to play one song and wait until it ends, as there is no other way to achieve this I know of, and the "Drop Files Clear Playlist" feature is currently broken so I don't know what its supposed to do.
  • Hello,

Unfortunately, this works only if Guayadeque is already running and stopped. However, if it is not running, it will not automatically start playing a song which was opened from a file manager. Also, for some reason, it does not clear the playlist when I open another song, even with that option unchecked.
On the other hand, it does begin to play the song automatically if it is already opened and stopped, as you said. Better than nothing, I think...
    Thanks for the info.
  • @Marcelo: what version are you using ?
  • @anonbeat: I'm running version 0.3.5, which is the one available in Ubuntu 12.04 repos.
  • @anonbeat: with 1813 Drop files clear playlist can not be enabled. When enabled after clicking accept it does not save the changes and going back to preferences shows it as unchecked again. Is there an older build I could install that this feature still works on?

This should be fixed in svn 1817

How guayadeque is designed right now is that if you open it with a track and its not playing or not running it will start playing that track inmediatelly. If was playing the track will be added to the now playing playlist.

It now allows this feature to be enabled and it saves it's state, but it does not seem to have any effect. No matter where I try to drag files from, be it Guayadeques file manager, or a Collection, or from Nautilus, it never clears the playlist. I even tried disabling smart mode but no avail.

Maybe you disabled this function because it wasn't working correctly?

If I open a track and Guayadeque is running but not playing anything, then it indeed starts playing immediatelly. But if it is not running, it does not start playing. It opens and loads the track, but I have to click the play button manually.

    Thanks,

Thanks. I will try to take a look at it asap
This should be fixed in svn 1818

Its working fine here using svn revision 1818. Can you try installing the version from my ppa please ?
  • Ok that's working again. So now all that's needed is an option for it to play the newest song added to the playlist, or skip to the track added to the playlist if for example 'Drop files clears playlist' is enabled.

Or, would it be possible to write in the above requested feature which would be something like: Skip to song added to the playlist if not added from in guayadeque? Then it would start playing any song that was dropped/opened from Nautilus.
  • dont you think that this will make guayadeque more and more complex ?
I think it cant do everything anyone can think about
  • Well as far as just having an option to be able to play a song when clicked on from Nautilus or other file manager for instance, I don't think would make it too complicated. That seems very useful in some cases.

But perhaps it would be better to have a plugin system instead, which would make things less complicated and would give the ability to add certain features like this?

Things like this might be better to wait for until later on down the line though.
  • I've installed the PPA ppa:anonbeat/guayadeque (is this one the correct?), uninstalled guayadeque and installed package guayadeque-svn version 1818~precise-2.
It still does not starts playing files automatically when they are clicked in
  • Sorry, last comment was sent incomplete.
... when they are clicked in a file manager (Dolphin).
  • sorry to bump this, but I have the exact same problem.
Xubuntu 12.04 here, using pcmanFM as file manager.

I first tried PPA version, if Guadayeque is not running, opening a file from file manager (be it "open" with gayadeque by defaut or "open with"), it will load into guayadeque but won't start

then I purged it, installed latest svn (1849), exact same result.
when I open from file manager with audacious or clementine, files autostart without problem.

  • not that I use this or need this, but I can confirm this.
