That way, I could save some space in my home folder (the entire .guayadeque folder is taking up 1.8GB already, and I'm still expanding my music library) by placing the databases on an external drive (the same one my music is stored on).
An additional feature would then be to make this setup portable, meaning: I could take my extHD and plug it into another persons computer who also has guayadeque installed, and by simply pointing guayadeque to my collection on the extHD, I could access my library immediately (without first having to create a new library on the other computer and scanning my entire extHD).

This functionality probably has uses under other GUIs as well but in my case I'm requesting these features so you can control the playback of guayadeque from the lock screen i.e gdm 3.6

Basically the only thing I see with this ability is rhythmbox but I have confirmed with gnome devs that it should not be very hard to implement this in Guaya. This is what I was told on irc:

"there's a way to make a resident notification, and a way to add actions to notifications"

So with that info I googled on resident notifications and came up with these results, the first one describes a patch and how to talk to libnotify I guess?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/nuvola-player/+bug/968619

These next two might not be of much help but seemed similar, but the one above should be enough to implement resident notifications and actions from what I read. The last one here gives a good example of how rhythmbox does it in the tray, but not the lockscreen though.

https://github.com/tanwald/gnome-shell-extension-thunderbird-integration/issues/12
http://blogs.gnome.org/marina/tag/gnome-shell/

And I must say that this software is a real piece of art. That's what I want! Simple, minimalistic, with full search function. Except for one point. I want a really minimalistic interface, even more than that. And here comes my request.

Like in foobar with the UI columns plugin, I'd like to decide where go the buttons and where goes the playbar. And most of all, I'd like to remove the cover picture and the description of the currently playing song, because they take a lot of space and I don't need them at all.
To be honest, I don't really need a fully customizable controls tab. But at least I want to be able to remove the description and cover.

I've tried to disable the option "Show CD cover frame in player", but I see no difference.

And while I'm on it, I'd also like to be able to remove the cover in the task bar.
When using the intelligent playback feature with a large music collection (26,000+ tracks) the random playback function isn't as random as I would like. It has a tendency to pick three songs from one category of music and three songs from another and alternate them.

For example right now my playlist is Flogging Molly- Salty Dog, The Theme from Conan, The Pouges- Sally MacLennane, From The Nightmare before Christmas sound track - What is this, The Tossers - Siobhan, Matrix Reloaded - Trinity dream.

So its alternating Irish punk with movie sound tracks right now. The other day it was alternating Rockabilly with Industrial music. It does this very frequently. To fix this, I think you would need to add the ability to filter by category to your most excellent filter set up.

This also brings me to my other feature request. It would be great if tracks could be "weighted" for random selection. That way songs you're currently sick of could be set to zero and not be selected for the playlist, and songs you really love could be set at a higher value and played more often. In that fashion you could also set holiday music to zero in the off season and turn the selection frequency up during the holiday.

Thanks for a wonderful piece of ware. It's the only player I use, even if I can't pronounce the name.

I tested in the last days possible 20 different music players for Linux, the most are all looking the same, with two lists for the artist and the albums at the top, the titles beneath them. All Linux player also have the typical playlist queue, with is rather annoying.

Guayadeque is my favorite player yet, but it has the same playlist issues. The dynamic playlists are very good, but in my case they will be too much if there aren't subfolders. If this feature would be available in Guayadeque, it would be unique in Linux audio players, and it would be one of the feature what it would allow to import XML iTunes Libraries without loosing compatibility.

I'm actually using the album view in Guayadeque, my files are manually sorted, so I have the best overview without using playlists. The album browser has a problem: If you click into the browser, you can't move through the albums with the cursor keys. You first have to click on the scroll bar, but then its too late because it scrolls to a position you don't want to. Clicking on the grey background of the album browser should activate key scrolling.

Other things:

There should be an option to define the font size of the playlist text. I'm using a 12" Thinkpad X61t TabletPC with 1400x1050 pixel resolution, but with the small Ubuntu system font. This size is ok for applications, but the playlist text is now about 2-3 mm high. It's nearly unreadable.

There's an option 'Empty playlist if new files are added' or something like that, this option always disables itself after pressing 'OK'.

I didn't found an option to disable the Cross-fading, so I had to move the sliders to 0,0,10,9. The crossfading option should get a 'Default' button, or possibly a preset option.

Would there be a way to normalize playing to a specified dB-value?

And something to the Equalizer: It really sounds gruesome. Sorry to say this so hard, but I have iTunes running via PlayOnLinux on the same system and it handles this much better. The incredible thing is, that really all presets in Guayadeque's EQ sound bad. If I'm using the inbuilt Laptop speakers, nearly every preset creates clipping because of the pre-Amp. I can only use the Linear settings, but then the sound is good. The Equalizer should be created completely new.

But these problems don't keep me from using Guayadeque as my default Linux music player. My biggest wish would be subfolders for playlists, and perhaps a function to import iTunes Libaries.

Here are some ideas for an iTunes library importer: It should feature at least these three functions:

- iTunes library file request
- iTunes music folder request
- Sharing or coping to no location request

In the Windows version of iTunes are music files normally located in C:\Users\UserName\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media, and in MacOS it's /Volumes/VolumeName/Users/UserName/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media. But it could be complete other paths, f.e. E:\MyMusic\iTunes or something like that. Linux does not use these path structures, so the there should two seperate requests: For the iTunes libary XML file and the iTunes Music files folders. So the Linux path structure /media/dev/sda3/ could be created during the import process. The third request should be an option to keep the files where they are - for a multiboot system - or copy them to a new location, f.e. from an portable harddisk.

A common request is to order artist like The Beatles under B and no in the T:
https://sourceforge.net/apps/ideatorrent/guayadeque/ideatorrent/idea/32/

Some programs allow you specify some initial words that are omitted when sorting like: the, a, an. But this has problems because for instance in German die is an article, but it's also a verb in English. Also you may want to order artists by the surname instead of their first name.

I think that the best option would be to use two tags that already exist for these (I don't have the exact names now, but they should be easy to find). There you can write the way you want things to be sorted and by default is the same as the respective artist/album. You may even write something different like the year.

I found this article that describes how it's done in iTunes and it's exactly what I was thinking.
http://www.macworld.com/article/155173/2010/10/itunes_sorting_tags.html

By the way, that could also be a way to deal with the problem that now letters with accent are send to the end of the list, but as it was suggested, I think it's a collation issue.

On my harddisk, my music collection is divided in 2 folders:

Albums
Single Tracks

Guayadeque can look for 'Albums', I know. But: Many of my single tracks have an album name in their tag. But I don't want them to get listed as Albums. But I also don't want to remove the album tag in the ID3 tag of the single tracks. Because I want to know from which album this track is.

However, I want to be able to distinguish between:

1. 'Complete Albums'

2. 'Single Tracks' (which may have an album tag though)

Currently, the only way to do that is to have redundant collections:

1. 'All Music' = Folder 'Albums' + Folder 'Single Tracks'
2. 'Full Albums' = Folder 'Albums'
3. 'Single Tracks' = Folder 'Single Tracks'

And I wonder if this might end in conflicts. Because I use them all at the same time, switching between those views via tabs bar. Now I might decide to edit the tag of some tracks. But because this track is also contained in the other collection, I wonder if this might irritate the software.

It would be much more convenient to be able to have something like:

'Look for music in all collections'

In other words: It would be nice to have the possibility to meta-collections (or sub-collections, depending from where you look at it).

As for my example, I would simply create the collections 'Full Albums' and 'Single Tracks'
and then create a new meta-collection 'All Music' to which I add the two collections.

This way I can choose to have a view on the whole (meta-)collection or only on one of the (sub-)collections. I then can have tabs/views for each of the three views, thus easily navigating depending on what I'm looking for. Sometimes I strictly want to look for full albums only. With the current collection function this is only possible through above described redundant collection creation.
